On the occasion of the Karthika Deepa festival, the Highways Department officials were engaged in the task of removing the encroachments on the Tiruvannamalai Kriwala road on Friday.
Thiruvannamalai SriArunasaleshwarar Temple Karthikai Deepa festival is held on Friday (Dec.13). It is expected that about 40 lakh devotees from different countries of the world will come to see the Bharani Deepam which will be lit at 4 in the morning at the Moolawar sannith of the temple and the Maha Deepam which will be lit on the 2,668 feet high mountain at 6 in the evening.
They are 14 km. It is customary to crawl along the remote Kriwala path and worship Ashtalinga Sannidhis, Arunachaleswarar and Ninnamulaiyamman. Therefore, Public Works Minister A.V. Velu and District Collector T. Bhaskara Pandian had ordered the Highways Department officials to remove the encroachments that are obstructing the pilgrims from reaching Krivalam.
Subsequently, on Friday, under the supervision of Tiruvannamalai District Supervising Engineer R. Krishnasamy, Tiruvannamalai Divisional Engineer P. Gnanavel and Assistant Divisional Engineer K. Anparasu, the encroachment removal work began.
Assistant Engineer Sasikumar and more than 50 workers were involved in the removal of various encroachments, including temporary shops, sidewalk shops, pushcarts, seats, which were encroaching on the footpath and footpath.
The encroachment work is going on with the help of bogline machine, crane and truck. Officials of the Highway Department said that these works will continue for a few days and strict action will be taken if the road is encroached upon again.
